– RGL’s Da Zhu, PhD, an applications and research engineering specialist, will present research on sand control engineering related to SAGD at the SPE Reservoir Simulation Conference in Montgomery, Texas, USA from February 20 – 22, 2017.
Dr. Zhu’s paper on the causes of fingering in steam-assisted heavy oil recovery was coauthored by Dr. Ian Gates from the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. The paper advances the industry’s understanding of the instability phenomena occurring at the lateral edges, as well as the top of SAGD steam chambers, by conducting and explaining a series of fundamental fluid mechanical analysis and reservoir simulations.
